K.P. RAMASWAMY, THE PERFECT MASON

I met K.P.Ramsami, or K.P., (born 28th June, 1907). as everybody called him, for the first time in the Masonic Lodge. I forget which Lodge meeting it was. His son Venkateswaran and his grandson Anand were my schoolmates. I had never met them after my school days. K.P. and I took an instant liking to each other. Very soon he became part of my family. One of the oldest members of Lodge Archibald Campbell, he was regular in attending all meetings. The evening spent with him was a sheer pleasure, just listening to him. The wealth of information and experience he has had in his life. He retired as the top honcho of Parry & Co. Ltd, and later was with Mr. A. Sivasailam, Chairman, Amalgamations Group. A wog to the core, he had the undisputed privilege of giving a joke at every festive board, for which he would come well prepared.

K.P. was a regular visitor to my house at least once a month. His health was not quite good and he soon stopped attending Lodge meetings. But still we continued to meet at his house in Halls Road, Kilpauk, regularly. He was a very house-proud man and used to say, "Everything has a place in a house. If the lights go off, I should be able to place my hand on whatever I want and it should be found in the correct place". His house was proof of his perfectionism.

I had the pleasure of presenting him a scroll on his completion of 60 years as a mason in Lodge Archibald Campbell in 1996. Sadly, he passed away on August 11, 1996, alone but never forgotten.
